Switch replacement in Loughton: the finishing touch for your newly decorated room

At Tack Electrical, we’re an NICEIC Approved Contractor. We replace switches across Loughton, Buckhurst Hill, Woodford, South Woodford, Chingford and Chigwell for homeowners, landlords and businesses.

You’ve decorated. Let’s finish the details

Fresh paint can make tired switches stand out more than ever. If you’ve spent time choosing colours and getting the room right, replacing the accessories can be that last job that brings everything together.

You might want brushed chrome, a different finish or simply clean new white switches. We’ll discuss your choice and check that the replacements suit the existing wiring and mounting arrangements.

If you want matching sockets changed at the same time, include them in your list. We can assess the complete job during the quotation visit.

A proper look before a proper quotation

We arrange a free quotation visit because appearance alone doesn’t tell us whether a replacement is suitable.

We look at your fuseboard, discuss the switches you want changed and assess the existing installation. We establish what inspection and testing will be needed, particularly if you’re changing from plastic accessories to metal ones.

We also ask whether you’re supplying the switches or would like us to supply them. Your quotation is then built around the fittings and work you’ve agreed with us.

That gives you a clear plan before installation day.

The earth connection needs checking

Some older lighting circuits have no earth conductor at the switch position. Having a plastic switch fitted already doesn’t prove that the circuit is suitable for a new metal accessory.

Where the replacement requires an earth connection, we need to verify that an effective connection is available. If it isn’t, we explain the necessary improvements or discuss suitable alternatives before proceeding. We don’t assume old wiring is safe simply because the existing light still works.

This was an important part of our brushed chrome installation. We checked the protective connections before fitting the accessories, rather than leaving the customer to wonder whether those checks had been done.

What happens during the replacement?

We safely isolate the relevant supply before removing the existing switches. We inspect the accessible wiring and terminals, prepare the conductors where needed and connect the replacement accessories according to their instructions.

We then secure the faceplates, check their operation and carry out the appropriate testing for the work.

Switches are touched every day, so secure fittings and sound connections deserve attention. The job needs to do more than look finished.

If we uncover damaged wiring or another issue that changes the agreed work, we explain it and discuss the next step with you.

Clear pricing for a small job

Our minimum small-works charge is £105 plus VAT, which is £126 including VAT.

That is a minimum visit charge, rather than a price per switch. Where practical, having several replacements completed during the same visit can offer better value than booking them separately.

The total depends on the number and type of accessories, who supplies them and whether any additional work is needed. We confirm those details in your quotation.

Times vary too. We’ll give you an estimate after assessing the job, rather than promising that a fixed number of switches can always be changed within an hour.

Care in the details

We use established materials that have proved dependable in our work. We’re also a TrustMark Registered Business, with City & Guilds qualifications, and our installation workmanship carries a six-year guarantee.

If you’re searching for switch replacement near you, we’re happy to help with those finishing touches.

Frequently asked questions

How much does switch replacement cost?

Our minimum small-works charge is £126 including VAT. We provide a quotation based on the number of switches, your chosen accessories and any additional work needed.

Can I supply my own switches?

Yes, we can fit customer-supplied switches if they’re suitable for the installation. We review your choices during the quotation visit, so please have the product details available.

Can you replace sockets at the same time?

Yes, we can quote for matching socket replacements alongside your switches. Give us the complete list so we can assess the work together.

Can I change plastic switches to metal ones?

We first check whether the wiring provides the effective earth connection required by your chosen accessory. If it doesn’t, we explain the improvements or suitable alternatives before fitting anything.

How long will the work take?

We estimate the time after checking the number of accessories and the existing installation. Straightforward replacements take a different amount of time from work involving damaged connections or unsuitable mounting arrangements.

Why do you need a quotation visit?

We want to check the installation and understand the fittings you’ve chosen before giving you a firm price. The visit also lets us agree whether you’re supplying the accessories or we are.

What qualifications and guarantee do you have?

We’re an NICEIC Approved Contractor and a TrustMark Registered Business, with City & Guilds qualifications. We provide a six-year workmanship guarantee; any product guarantee on customer-supplied accessories remains with their supplier or manufacturer.
